Bafana legends Aaron Mokoena and David Nyathi were reportedly robbed at gunpoint at the South African Football Association (Safa) technical centre – affectionately known as Fun Valley.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday when thugs ransacked the 38-hectare premise and fled with several valuables.

BAFANA LEGENDS ROBBED AT SAFA’S PREMISES

The suspects fled away with cellphones, laptops, jewellery and Mokoena’s car, which they used as a getaway car. Sources close to the Sunday World suspect it was an inside job since the thieves knew officials at the premises.

Reports have it that the suspects held the security guards hostage, before they went to Nyathi and Mokoena’s room. “We suspect that it is an inside job. The criminal elements knew exactly who was in the resort,” said a well-placed source.

Another high-ranking official confirmed the news of the incident on anonymity. The official said to the media, “Yes, it is true. We are just trying to find out if they are okay.”

However, it has been established that this is not the first time the resort’s security has been breached. Rumour mill has it that several security breaches have since left Safa with no option but to terminate its contract with the new security company overseeing the property.

R70 MILLION FUN VALLEY RESORT

In 2015, Safa spent around R70 million on the facility. Fun Valley houses junior national teams, coaches, and administrative staff ahead of major tournaments.

Undoubtedly, the resort has fast become Safa’s one-stop shop for accommodation, training and conferencing. The 38-hectare property on the Golden Highway south of Johannesburg was popular in the 1990s.
