Broos says the Orlando Pirates attacker Mofokeng needs one more season in the Premier Soccer League(PSL) before moving overseas.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos believes Orlando Pirates youngster Relebohile Mofokeng is not ready to play overseas.
The 72-year-old coach warned the midfielder against making an early overseas move. He cited former Mamelodi Sundowns star Cassius Mailula as an example after the striker failed to impress in Major League Soccer(MLS). Broos says the Orlando Pirates attacker Mofokeng needs one more season in the Premier Soccer League(PSL) before moving overseas.
“So, what I said about [Cassius] Mailula, I’m saying again now with Mofokeng, ‘Stay at Pirates and play another season in the Premier Soccer League here in South Africa,” Broos the media.
“Hopefully with Caf Champions League games, then he will be a better player. Do you see what happened with Mailula? He came to Toronto, and there were two former Italian internationals, and what are you going to do with a little guy from South Africa there?”
Broos urge Mofokeng to stay with Pirates for another season
“He did play one game two months ago and the rest he’s on the bench. What is he learning there? I hope the agent of Mofokeng is more clever than the one of Mailula,” he added.
“He should decide what’s important for the player, not what’s important for him. So, let’s see what happens. But I hope that he stays at Pirates and plays another season,” said Broos.
Hugo Broos says Mofokeng’s situation might be similar to Mailula if he leaves soon
Mofokeng was added in Bafana Bafana’s 23-man to face Nigeria and Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The 19-year-old has been in superb form for the Buccaneers and is nominated for Young Player of the Year. Besides Mofokeng, Hugo Broos has picked two other Orlando Pirates players: Nkosinathi Sibisi and Patrick Maswanganyi.
Bafana play Nigeria on 7 June before hosting Zimbabwe four days later.
