Defender Grant Kekana backs Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos to stay in his job and continue to lead the squad.

Kekana is one of the key and solid defenders in the Bafana squad under Broos and says he would like to see the Belgian mentor keep his job.

This comes on the backdrop of speculation that Broos could retire from coaching Bafana but the coach expressed the desire to stay – Kekana shares his views.

With Bafana having reached the semi-finals of the Afcon tournament and set to face DR Congo in the third-place play-off, Kekana says they have come a long way with the Bafana coach, Broos.

The 71-year-old former Cameroon coach, Broos has about two years remaining in his Bafana contract and has brought stability to the Bafana squad.

“Definitely we would like him to stay because he gave some of us an opportunity to represent our country,” said Bafana defender Kekana on coach Broos’ future.

“He’s got one last task and it is to get us to a World Cup and we want to achieve that with him.

“We started this journey with him and we would like to finish it with him.

“We wanted to prove to ourselves how good we are. It would have been better if we got the support we needed.”

Looking at Bafana’s displays at the Afcon tournament, the 1996 African champions defeated Namibia, Morocco, and Cape Verde but drew against Tunisia while losing to Mali as well as Nigeria.

KEKANA PROUD OF PROGRESS UNDER BOSS BROOS

Despite Bafana losing to the Super Eagles on penalties in a match where Kekana was red-carded, the Mamelodi Sundowns central defender added that they are proud of their efforts.

“We understand sometimes we have to do good for people to believe in us,” added Kekana.

“We tried our utmost best and it just wasn’t to be, but we can be proud of our efforts.

“The boys can be proud of their efforts. They gave it their all and it just wasn’t to be as we lost on penalties, which is a lottery.

“We can be proud of our efforts because going into the tournament not a lot of people believed in us, but we believed in each other.

“That’s what mattered. We fought for one another on the field until the last minute.”
