Ramoreboli names prelim Bafana Bafana COSAFA squad

Ryan Moon, Iqraam Rayners, Ranga Chivaviro are amongst the players called by Morena Ramoreboli ahead of the COSAFA Cup.

Morena Ramoreboli has named Bafana Bafana’s preliminary squad ahead of the upcoming 2023 Senior Men’s COSAFA Cup.

The annual tournament will take place from 5 – 16 July 2023, in Durban.

Morena Ramoreboli, who is in charge of the Bafana COSAFA team named his team on Friday evening.The national team will report for camp on 27 June 2023, where the final 21 men squad will be announced

Ramoreboli is familiar with coaching in this tournament as he played a major role in Bafana Bafana’s triumph in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He will be assisted by Raymond Mdaka.

SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok said the two coaches had what it takes to do well in this year’s tournament.

“We look forward to playing this year’s COSAFA Cup, and believe that our scouting team has done a great job in scouting players in the First Division, our former U23 players and players on the verge of breaking into the Bafana Bafana team;” explained the Botswana Premier League winning coach,” he said.

“Coach Ramoreboli has the necessary experience and support to ensure that we do well in this regional championship. We hope his exploits in the previous tournament will galvanize the troops to have the motivation of raising their hands for future Bafana Bafana duties;” said SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok.

Ramoreboli’s appointment came at a shock to many who expected Bafana assistant coach Helman Mkhalele to take over.

It later emerged that Mkhalele doesn’t have required qualifications to lead the team in the COSAFA Cup.
