After including him in his squad, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos shares a brutal verdict on striker Khanyisa Mayo.

Broos looks at his decision to include the free-scoring Mayo, saying he is sometimes absent during the game.

The controversial mentor, Broos states that Mayo must prove his worth that he is ready to play for Bafana.

While the coach’s verdict may be harsh, Broos says Mayo is part of the Bafana squad because of injuries in the team.

This comes as the Bafana coach is without Evidence Makgopa and Lebo Mothiba owing to injuries.

BAFANA COACH BROOS DROPS BRUTAL VERDICT ON MAYO’S QUALITIES

Looking at the Citizens hitman, Mayo boasts nine goals in the DStv Premiership but Broos feels he’s not ready for Bafana.

In the previous campaign, the 25-year-old Mayo scored 12 goals to share the Golden Boot accolade with Peter Shalulile.

While Broos came under heavy criticism for snubbing Mayo, he has finally given the left-footed star a chance.

“You know why Mayo was not at AFCON? Mayo is good months ago but he’s not progressed,” says Broos on Mayo’s qualities.

“He needs to take that step more to be a real Bafana player.

“Okay now with all the injuries, I give him another chance.

“So it’s up to him to show he can reach that level of Bafana.

“If he can, we have a good striker, more especially a younger one.

“So that means for the future we have less problems.”

WHY BAFANA BOSS SNUBBED MAYO FOR AFCON DUTIES

Formerly in charge of Cameroon, Broos usually drops controversial verdicts on local Bafana players, Mayo is no exception.

“I find that Mayo is sometimes really out of the game, you look at him and you don’t see him,” adds the Broos on Mayo.

“He’s there but no action, nothing, you can’t be like that as a striker, certainly not at the level we play.

“I think it’s a mental problem maybe, to have that mentality to say I want to show it, he’s a nice guy.”

Bafana will face Algeria and Andorra in the North African country this month and Mayo will look to impress.
