Bafana’s ‘Afcon money’ to be used for football development, SAFA
Safa said the junior national teams were not sponsored and relied heavily on Bafana for funding to help with access to more prep camps.

Bafana Bafana’s third-place finish at the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) secured them R46.9 million. Still, the South African Football Association (SAFA) says not all of it will go to the players.
The association said some of the remaining funds will be utilised to ‘further the development of South African football’.
In a statement, Safa said a contract was signed between them and Bafana’s senior players representing the team where the payments and bonuses were agreed upon.
“We further highlight that the payments and bonuses, as agreed with the players will be paid when the prize monies are received from the Confederations of African Football (CAF). The remaining funds will be utilised in the further development of football. “

The funds are not intended for members of the national executive committee of the Association or any SAFA staff.

“We, as SAFA, account to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the money that is awarded by the continental body,” the association added.
“The SAFA CFO will be responsible for effecting payments to the players’ bank accounts on receipt of funds from CAF.”
The association has not disclosed how much Bafana Bafana will get for their bonus.
