Bafana Bafana begin their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign this weekend against Benin.

Hugo Broos’s men will play Benin and Rwanda in the next few days as they look to start their journey on a winning note.

Bafana have been on camp at the University of Pretoria since Monday.

Broos knows that the pressure is on him to guide his side to their first World Cup qualification in 21 years.

“It’s an important camp because we play World Cup qualifiers. For me, it’s been 21 years (since the team’s last successfully qualified for a WC).

“For you South Africans, it’s 12 years since you last qualified for the World Cup … in 2010 – but it was a little present for you because you organised it,” Broos said this week as per IOL.

Bafana are favourites to beat Benin, who ranks 90th in the world but the West Africans have nothing to lose, so expect them to make life difficult for the South Africans.

The two teams have only met once and that was back in 2004 at the African Cup of Nations.

Bafana claimed a 2-0 win with Siyabonga Novethe scoring a brace.

A win for Hugo Broos and his men will give them confidence in going to Rwanda but any setbacks might cause panic.

Bafana host Benin at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 on Sabc 1.
