Sithole will move away from Portugal

Sphephelo Sithole starred at the base of midfield for Bafana at Afcon, forming a solid partnership with Teboho Mokoena. His agent believes he won’t be playing for Portuguese second-tier side Tondela for long.

“Of course, we want to transfer him, but the club wants €3 million (R61,551,300 in today’s exchange rate), but in the second league it is very difficult [to get that kind of offer]. But we need to think about the next step for Yaya, it is very important now. He’s 24 and all the people in Africa or the world know there is a good midfielder in the second league in Portugal, who played very well against players playing in the Premier League or other big leagues. ” said Manuel Tomas to iDiski Times.

“But we are waiting for a good opportunity and the next step is very important of course. But he will move at the end of the season. It is better not to talk about it but there is a proposal in the Serie A. As I said, he doesn’t deserve to play in the second league, and I need to do my best to transfer him away from Tondela.”

Bafana Bafana stars are in demand

Glyn Binkin is part of Football First, a company representing Aubrey Modiba, Teboho Mokoena, Thapelo Maseko and Oswin Appollis. Overseas interest in South African footballers is building following their run to the semi-finals. Two South Africans were even named in the tournament’s combined best XI.

Speaking to SABC Sport at OR Tambo to welcome Bafana from Abidjan, Binkin made a plea to South African Premier Division clubs.

“There’s obviously been a lot of speculation around the players because of their success in the tournament but all players have long-term contracts at their club. So, any interested party will have to engage with the respective clubs to see if they will be prepared to sell the players. Obviously, we are hopeful that the clubs will be reasonable and give the players the opportunity to play football at the highest levels abroad but that’s up to the clubs. We are sure the common sense will prevail,” Binkin said.

Sifiso Hlanti, Pule Mmodi, Yusuf Maart and Edmilson Dove are all on three bookings for the season. One more caution for any of them and they’d land an automatic one-match suspension.
