BREAKING: Bafana Bafana coach resigns!

Bafana Bafana‘s technical team is a man short after the resignation of one of the coaches who decided to head back to Europe!

Hugo Broos’ right-hand man Cedomir Janevski has tendered his resignation, and the South African Football Association (SAFA) accepted it.

The news were confirmed by SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe who revealed the separation was amicable as Janevski has a new opportunity abroad.

Furthermore, Motlanthe said SAFA doesn’t intend to appoint a second assistant coach after coach Broos said he is fine with having Helman Mkhalele only.

Nonetheless, Motlanthe said while there are national teams that succeeded with one assistant coach, Broos’ decision to work with Mkhalele only isn’t fixed.

This means, should Broos change his mind and request another assistant then SAFA will consider it and ensure that the Belgian has the man he wants.

Janevski had a four years left on his contract with SAFA as he signed a five-year deal along with Broos when they first arrived in May 2021.

“He had gotten the opportunity to go and coach overseas as the head coach. After discussing with the senior men’s national team head coach (Hugo Broos) we agreed that we should not deny him the opportunity,” said Motlanthe to reporters on Saturday.

“Further to that, the coach has said that he is comfortable with having one assistant. So, going forward coach Helman Mkhalele will be the only assistant coach.”

“There are national teams that have succeeded with one assistant coach and we always take the tune from the head coach, if he says he is comfortable knowing the volume of work.”

“And these decisions are not fixed. If he comes back and says, ‘I’ve had a look back and now I need someone’ we will look at it. But for now, he has said he is comfortable in having Helman Mkhalele as his only assistant coach,” added Motlanthe.

Janevski’s resignation comes a week before Bafana Bafana face Sierra Leone and Botswana in international friendly matches at FNB Stadium.

Broos’ charges face Sierra Leone on 24 September before welcoming Botswana three days later at the same venue.
