Dricus and Bafana Bafana are tjommies

Dricus Du Plessis, recently crowned UFC Middleweight Champion of the World, is a proud South African as we all know. When he beat Sean Strickland in Canada the 30-year-old was draped with our beautiful flag and then uttered the words “Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie” which has become an instant hit of a catchphrase around the nation. Even Bafana have cottoned on to it.

South Africa gearing up for Cape Verde test

The Cape Verde Islands, an archipelago off the west coast of Africa, also known as Cabo Verde or the Republic of Cabo Verde, are one of the big surprise packages at AFCON. Their population is estimated at approximately 590,000. Staggeringly, that is just 1% of South Africa’s estimated population of 59,000,000. Not many pundits or casual observers would have expected them to reach this stage, but that’s tournament football for you. Bafana meets Cape Verde on Saturday 3 February at 22:00 for the right to reach the semi-finals.
