Bafana Bafana are unbeaten in almost 500 days yet nobody cares

Bafana Bafana needs to be ruthless, show passion, and qualify for World Cups in order to win millions of fans back.

Bafana Bafana’s unbeaten run of eleven games has done little to bring them support.

The lack of attendance at Bafana matches has been a headache for the South African Football Association (SAFA). Even if tickets are sold for R20, fans are not interested in watching the SA national soccer team play.

Take a look at the Springboks, everytime they play at home, stadiums are filled. Those who are not big on rugby, won’t hesitate to buy a ticket for R600-R800 to watch the Boks play as they know the team will give their all and entertain those in attendance.

Bafana need to win, win and win more to attract fans

Since the 2010 World Cup, Bafana’s support has declined significantly. The team has failed to appear in three successive WC tournaments and also dropped in the FIFA rankings.

Under Hugo Broos, Bafana has improved somewhat but still struggle to beat Eswatini and Namibia.

The last time Bafana suffered a defeat was against Morocco in Rabat in June 2022, but one should look at their 5-0 trashing against France three month prior.

The team has embarrassed the nation on numerous occasions and it will take more than 10-15 unbeaten games to win over fans.

Bafana’s style of play is not eye-catching and lacks direction. The team is not structured and although they look comfortable on the ball in most games, the end product is always missing. The lack of goals, passion, and wins is the reason why the fans stay home.

The only way Safa can bring people back into the stadium is if Bafana reaches the semi-finals of next year’s African Cup of Nations. That alone won’t be enough though as fans want to see the national team back at the FIFA World Cup.
