Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala celebrates 13 years after scoring his World Cup goal.

In the 2010 Fifa World Cup’s first game, South Africa locked horns with Mexico, and Tshabalala scored the first goal.

The game ended with a draw after Rafael Marquez scored an equaliser in the 79th minute.

Shabalala’s goal made him famous during the World Cup competitions, and he has been celebrating 13 years since scoring it on 11 June 2010.

Sharing on his Instagram, Siphiwe Tshabalala showed how much he loves this goals saying:

“It’s been 13 years and it still feels surreal 😭😭😭😭😭, HappyShabbaday❤️”

SIPHIWE TSHABALALA CELEBRATES WORLD CUP GOAL

It is 13 years since that day, but it is still fresh in Siphiwe’s mind.

He now calls it the ‘Shabbaday‘, and many South Africans have celebrated it with him.

Siphiwe spoke more of this goal with The South African Football Association while celebrating 12 years.

“The moment is still on my mind and on many other people’s minds as well. I am just grateful, eternally grateful that I scored probably the most important goal in the history of our football and in the history of the World Cup as well.” he said.

He continued speaking of how the goal meant to South Africans saying: “In the morning I was OK, everything was normal. But I remember that I received a call from home where I grew up, in Phiri, and they were saying there was a group of people that gathered outside my grandmother’s house the previous night. They were waving the national flag, wearing national team regalia and blowing vuvuzelas. It was such a good message as it said they were fully behind me and they wished me well.”
