Last month it was confirmed by Sundowns that they had parted ways with Andile Jali after five years with the club ended with reports of a fall out and ill-discipline. Jali joined Sundowns in 2018 and ultimately went on to win five DStv Premiership titles.

There has been plenty of speculation around where he might end up moving to next, and some reports suggested a short-term move to Pirates seemed to be on the cards.

Since then, nothing concrete has materialised, and Jali has been training on his own, while waiting to see what opportunities could arrive for him as a ‘free agent’.

According to SABC Sport, Swallows opened formal talks to sign the 33-year-old ahead of next season, with the club having recently announced the appointment of Steve Komphela. The veteran coach has a strong relationship with Jali, and this could have been a key factor in bringing the playmaker to Swallows.

Yet, a more recent report from FARPost suggest that Cape Town City have also tabled an offer, and that they could be the frontrunners to sign him.

Ultimately, a signed agreement is expected by the end of this week.

“We’re very close to finalising a deal, but I can’t disclose the club. I’m hoping that by the end of the week, we will have concluded,” his agent Mike Makaab told FARPost.

Jali has kept everyone guessing about his next move

When recently speaking to Gagasi FM’s Simtho Dladla, Makaab also suggested various options were still being considered.

“AJ and I were in touch and he has started doing his own preparation before the pre-season. This is so that whoever signs him will get an AJ in the right frame of mind and the right physical condition.”
