Al Ahly put Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns behind them with a 4-1 win over Pharco in the league on Tuesday night.

Pitso Mosimane’s men went into the encounter occupying a second spot, and they needed maximum points to dislodge Pyramids at the summit of the log.

And Al Ahly did it in style as they raced to a 3-0 lead inside the opening 13 minutes of the encounter against Pharco.

Interestingly, Luis Miquissone was brought back into the Al Ahly starting line-up following concerns from the Egyptian media last weekend.

Percy Tau, on the other hand, settled for a place on the bench as Mosimane changed things around in an attempt to win the match.

It took Al Ahly just under five minutes to take the lead through Mohamed Sherif before Mohamed Afsha made it 2-0 two minutes later.

Afsha completed his brace in the 13th-minute as Al Ahly appeared to be cruising nicely and looked dominant on the night.

Pharco did find the back of the net through Ahmed El Sighiry who scored with an easy tap-in from a Mohamed El-Shennawy spill in the 20th minute.

AL AHLY INTRODUCED PERCY TAU IN THE SECOND HALF

Tau then joined the party at the start of the second 45 minutes, replacing Miquissone as Mosimane wanted fresher legs while also trying to rest some players.

Aliou Dieng was also introduced to try and manage the game from the midfield and he did just that, giving Pharco players no breathing space.

Al Ahly would add a fourth goal three minutes from time through second half substitute Hussein El Shahat.

Al Ahly top the Egyptian Premier League standings with 25 points from nine games – they are two points ahead of second-placed Pyramids.
