The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) have reached an agreement with Supersport which will bring a portion of the Cricket World Cup to free to air TV.

Supersport own the exclusive broadcast rights to the event within South Africa but will allow the national broadcaster to deliver selected matches to their audience live.

Additional matches will be broadcast delayed and the SABC will be allowed to add Cricket World Cup 2019 highlights to their programme.

The SABC has an existing agreement with Supersport that allows them to produce their own broadcast of all international matches involving the Proteas played on South African soil.

A press release issued jointly by Multichoice and the SABC read: ” The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and SuperSport are pleased to inform the South African public that they have concluded an agreement for the SABC to broadcast the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

“This follows extensive negotiations between the parties. Some of these fixtures will be broadcast on a live basis and others, delayed and via highlights programmes. The SABC will announce details regarding its broadcast schedule of the matches shortly.”

In 2015 the SABC were allowed to send out a live broadcast of 30 of the Cricket World Cup matches including two Quarter Finals, one Semi final and the Final.

The SABC secured the exclusive rights to Cricket South Africa’s new flagship T20 competition, the Mzansi Super League last season.

Those who enjoy the SABC Sport’s cricket commentary team won’t get to hear their favourite voices calling the World Cup, as the broadcast will come with the official English commentary track. Shaun Pollock and Graeme Smith are the South African representatives on the panel, while the commentary team also includes Supersport cricket stalwart, Pommie Mbangwa.

The open round-robin format of the World Cup means that cricket fans will get to see each of the ten team’s test their mettle against the game’s best.
