Earlier in the day, SuperSport and the Varsity Cup issued a joint apology after extreme weather conditions forced the broadcaster to halt its telecast of the UCT-Maties match at the Green Mile in Cape Town.
Arch-rivals UCT Ikeys and Maties are currently facing off in what was touted as the main game of the second round of Varsity Cup action this week.
The Varsity Cup’s Western Cape derby, which kicked off at 19:00, was penciled it for a prime time slot on SuperSport. But the pay-TV broadcaster, together with the tournament organisers, have now confirmed that the game will not be screened due to circumstances beyond its control.
