Scrumhalf Embrose Papier has acknowledged it is time the Bulls players take more responsibility to help the team in the home stretch of the United Rugby Championship.

The Bulls have been in miserable form recently, as they slumped to a 10-match losing streak in all competitions before they finally ended that wretched run with a comprehensively Currie Cup win over Griquas last week.

And if Papier has his way, that victory will serve as a precursor for what remains of their URC and Currie Cup campaigns, respectively.

The seventh-placed Bulls are scheduled to take on Zebre at Ellis Park on Saturday, and a favourable outcome will see them strengthen their bid for top eight finish and thus a spot in the playoffs of the competition.

Over in the Currie Cup, the Blue Bulls will travel to Durban for a challenging away fixture against the Sharks.

BULLS PLAYER MUST UP THEIR GAME

According according to Papier, the players know they have to put in more effort on the field to regain that winning mentality and revealed that there is a belief within the squad that they can build on that win against Griquas.

“The Bulls are a big union, there isn’t a single player here that wants to make mistakes or drag the union’s name in the mud,” he said.

“We are trying our best and we are working very hard. I think we as players need to take responsibility.”

“We have a responsibility to go out every weekend and give 110 percent. I just think we need to work harder.”

“Zebre are a team that enjoys loose play, so we will try and be consistent again with our kicking game and it is important that we win the set-piece battle.”

When asked how the Bulls managed their confidence during that horrible period of 10 losses, Papier it helps to turn to the people you trust most.

“I have close friends and family, so they support me. They will always tell me the truth about how they feel.

“But as a player, I am working hard and that is helping me stay positive. I just hope to give my all every weekend to inspire others.”
