Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg faced arrest following an incident at his ex-wife’s residence, reports suggest. The arrest occurred shortly after Hogg was seen enjoying Scotland’s Six Nations victory over England alongside celebrity friends.

Hogg’s Allegations and Arrest

Hogg, who made a surprise retirement from rugby prior to the 2023 World Cup, reportedly faces charges related to causing fear and alarm through threatening or abusive behaviour. The alleged incident took place on the evening of Sunday, 25 February, at his ex-wife’s home in Hawick, Roxburghshire.

Celebrity Outing Hours Before Arrest

Earlier that same day, Hogg was photographed at the Six Nations match between Scotland and England at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium.

He shared images on social media alongside actor Martin Compston and chef Greg Wallace, writing, “What a day. What a result. Cracking performance from the Scotland lads. Really enjoyed being amongst these legends in the Players Lounge”.

Arrest and Forthcoming Court Appearance

Hogg was taken into custody at the Hawick police station and subsequently released. However, he is expected to appear in court in the near future, with a report being submitted to prosecutors.

A police spokesperson confirmed: “A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged. He was released on an undertaking to appeal at Jedburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.”

Background: Family Tensions

This is not the first time police have been involved in Hogg’s personal life. Earlier this year, officers were reportedly called to a family dispute at his brother’s home on New Year’s Day.

The former rugby star split from his wife, Gillian, last year and is now in a relationship with jockey and Sky Sports presenter Leonna Mayor. The couple had four children together.

Hogg’s Rugby Legacy

Hogg’s abrupt retirement from rugby came as a shock, with some reports suggesting the decision was made to spend more time with his family. He earned an MBE in the King’s New Year’s Honours List for his contributions to the sport, including a record-breaking number of tries for his country and over 100 caps.
