When it comes to the Springboks, there aren’t likely to be many unexpected selections when they return to action later this year, but some new faces can be expected to be named in the wider group as the Bok coaches begin to assess their options beyond the World Cup group.

At the Stormers, Dayimani is blessed with an abundance of talent, and there is a sense that this is really the season when the 26-year-old could throw his name into the Bok ring.

With immense mobility and plenty of soft skills, Dayimani could really come into the national reckoning if he brings sturdy defence, increased physicality and high work rate to the mix.

The talented forward has the ability to play across the back row, and the Bok coaches may soon want to see first-hand what he can offer, especially if he continues to make a consistent impact.

Dayimani in winning form

This past weekend the Stormers boosted their Champions Cup prospects after defeating the Sale Sharks 31-24 triumph, with Dayimani scoring the opening try and proving to be a typical menace in broken field.

During a recent press conference, the versatile back rower outlined that he remains determined to “break the ceiling” and break through to the Springboks.

“I’ve been playing Super Rugby since 2017 and I’ve been an up-and-coming player for almost eight years,” Dayimani chuckled. “I’m just trying to change that, that I’m a player to look out for, and to break that ceiling. Hopefully, I can reach greater heights.”

Versatile performer

The 26-year-old has recently been shifted to No 8 after an injury to Evan Roos, and has taken the move in his stride.

“The logic behind [Dayimani moving to 8] is that we want one of our loose forwards, the No 8, to be like Evan … a carrier and strike runner,” Stormers coach John Dobson stated. “Evan does it with a hybrid of power and guile. Hacjivah is more sort of a stepping guy, but he does get those carrying metres.”
