Will he get another RWC? Springboks captain Bongi Mbonambi’s age revealed

The oldest was Schalk Brits – Springboks captain Bongi Mbonambi’s age was revealed as his 2027 RWC chances were questioned.

Springboks star Bongi Mbonambi’s age was revealed while assessing his 2027 World Cup chances.

Mbonambi became the team’s captain following team captain Siya Kolisi‘s injury.

Since then, he has led the team so well, winning all their three World Cup games.

Taking the armband meant much attention to the skipper as fans got to know more of him.

A few days ago, he made headlines when his wife was revealed on their wedding anniversary.

Slowly, Mbonambi is becoming the Springboks team’s face at the World Cup in France.

SPRINGBOKS CAPTAIN BONGI MBONAMBI’S AGE REVEALED.

The strong Hooker was born on 7 January 1991 and is now thirty-one years old.

With that in mind, in the 2027 World Cup to be hosted in Australia, Mbonambi would be thirty-six years old.

This means he could be playing at his top level if he remains fit and injury-free.

If he makes it into the 2027 squad, he would still be younger than Schalk Brits when he played at the 2019 World Cup.

Brits was 38 when he made it into the 2019 World Cup squad, hence giving Mbonambi every hope of making it.

OLDEST PLAYER IN RUGBY WORLD CUP HISTORY 

The record for the oldest player to compete at a Rugby World Cup still belongs to Uruguay’s Diego Ormaechea.

Los Lelos’ inspirational skipper turned out at the 1999 Rugby World Cup having already cracked 40.

Ormaechea is also the oldest man to score at a World Cup, having powered over for a try against Spain.

He played 73 times for his country, and his sons Augustin and Juan Diego are in the Uruguay 2019 World Cup squad.

Ormaechea is also a respected veterinary surgeon specialising in racehorses.
