Springboks: Good and bad news on Lood, Marx and Mapimpi! – UPDATE

Lood de Jager was one of three Springboks players unavailable for selection whilst Malcolm Marx and Makazole Mapimpi got injured during the Rugby World Cup.

Lood de Jager was one of three Springboks players unavailable for selection whilst Malcolm Marx and Makazole Mapimpi got injured during the Rugby World Cup.

Lood was ruled out of the Rugby World Cup with a chest-related illness. He was one of three big-names missing when Jacques Nienaber announced his 33-man Rugby World Cup squad. Handre Pollard and Lukhanyo Am were ruled out due to lack of game time and a knee injury, respectively.

However, Pollard and Am are now in the squad due to Marx and Mapimpi’s unfortunate injuries. Here is the latest update on our Bok trio.

MIXED NEWS ON THE INJURY FRONT FOR SPRINGBOKS TRIO

There is good and bad news for all three injured Springboks players.

Lood is officially out of the Rugby World Cup. Even if a player is injured he will not be available for selection.

The good news is that he has been able to resume light exercise. In fact, he was able to play some golf a couple of weeks ago and he is allowed to walk and jog for up to 30 minutes a day.

“I got the green light to play golf about two weeks ago. It’s nice,” he told Rapport.

“I am also now in a place where I can walk or jog for 30 minutes a day, as long as I keep my heart rate within a certain limit. It may not be higher than 120,” he added.

MARX AND MAPIMPI COULD RETURN TO SA CAMP FOR MOTIVATION

Both players are unfortunately out of the Rugby World Cup.

However, Rassie Erasmus confirmed that he will fly back both players if the Springboks reach the Rugby World Cup final. Furthermore, Marx had a successful operation and is on the road to recovery.
