Marvin Orie, Evan Roos, Canan Moodie and Elton Jantjies all did not make the cut in Nienaber’s recent Springboks squad set to take on New Zealand. Initially, 14 players were sent NZ to prepare for the titanic showdown with the All Blacks on Saturday, 15 June 2023. Then, after the Boks hammered the Wallabies 43-12, Nienaber announced 21 more players that will be joining the Boks in NZ.

Unfortunately, these four players did not make the cut. While Frans Steyn just announced his retirement and Moerat is unlikely to be selected, as confirmed by Rassie Erasmus in a recent report on The South African.

Unfortunately, Orie is in danger of missing out with management instead opting for Kleyn after his impressive debut against the Wallabies.

We know that Eben Etzebeth, Lood de Jager and Franco Mostert will be selected. With RG Snyman and Jean Kleyn likely to battle it out for their final ticket to France.

ROOS ON THE ROPES?

Furthermore, Roos has fallen substantially down the pecking order with van Staden putting in an excellent showing at Loftus on Saturday. Kwagga Smith, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Jean-Luc du Preez and Deon Fourie will all be in NZ.

Whilst, Siya Kolisi is set to return in time for the Rugby World Cup. Thus, further decreasing Roos’ chances of making the squad.

MOODIE AND JANTJIES LIKELY TO MISS OUT

Moodie will feel unlikely to not be on the plane to France. However, it is understandable given the magnitude of talent in his position. Kurt-lee Arendse is coming off a hat-trick. Furthermore, he is one of the form Springboks while Cheslin Kolbe and Makazole Mapimpi names say it all. Two of he best finishers in world rugby and our Rugby World Cup 2019 try-scorers. Therefore, Moodie now faces a likely drop. All hope is not lost though as he is a very talented player. He will be hoping Nienaber opts for an additional outside back if Bok veteran Jesse Kriel is not at his best.

Finally, Jantjies was not a part of he Aussie squad nor was he invited to NZ. Therefore, he has been dropped and his Rugby World Cup dream is probably over (barring any injuries to Handre Pollard, Manie Libbok and Damian Willemse).

STEYN AND MOERAT RUGBY WORLD CUP DREAMS OVER

Steyn has officially hung up his boots after an illustrious Springboks career.

Furthermore, Moerat is in a race against time to be fit but he is not going to be selected, as confirmed on The South African.
