Wiese, who has 20 Test caps for the Springboks, received the most votes from his peers in the Premiership to claim the most prestigious award in the English game, capping off a fantastic year for the South African.

The 27-year-old loose forward has been the Leicester Tigers’ most influential player this season, having featured in 14 league games and scoring six tries.

His stats also include 130 tackles made, 11 offloads and 218 carries, the fourth-highest in the competition.

Wiese was up against other incredible talents, including Mateo Carreras, Ben Earl, Alex Mitchell and Tom Pearson. Still, his stellar season was duly noted and rewarded by the other players in the league who voted for him to win the illustrious Rugby Players’ Association award.
