A bonus-point win is of utmost importance for the Boks against Tonga.

However, even that will not ensure safe passage into the quarter-finals. We have worked out the exact margin of victory needed to mathematically guarantee the quarter-final berth.

SPRINGBOKS MUST WIN BY OVER 37 POINTS

South Africa need to beat Tonga by 37+ to book their place in the quarter-finals of Rugby World Cup 2023.

A win by this margin (or more) will cement their place in the final eight. Regardless of the result between Ireland and Scotland in the blockbuster Group B showdown on 7 October 2023.

A bonus point win will see the Springboks go up to 15 points.

Currently, Ireland are on 14 points from their three matches whilst Scotland (5 points) are widely expected to be on 10 points after they face Romania.

OPEN LETTER TO SPRINGBOKS: CHANGE THE GOALKICKER – POLLARD IN, LIBBOK OUT!

Ireland currently have a positive points difference of 123 whilst the Springboks sit on 86+. Therefore, a win by 37 points or more will see the Springboks over take Ireland on points difference. Meaning, no outcome will be able to affect their qualification into the next round.
