Versatile Springbok Women’s forward Catha Jacobs did not board the flight home with her team-mates following their defeat to the Barbarian Women at Twickenham on Saturday.

Instead, the 23-year-old lock-cum-loose forward from the Blue Bulls will remain in the United Kingdom where she will be trying out for a professional contract for the next four months – reportedly at London Irish.

The SA Rugby website on Saturday reported that Catha Jacobs would join London Irish for the next four months, but then removed London Irish’s name from an updated version of the report.

Jacobs, who made her debut at lock in August of this year, played at No 6 flank in Saturday’s 60-5 defeat to the Barbarian side.

Catha Jacobs could become just the 2nd SA player to join a UK club

Jacobs, who was playing in just her fifth match for the Springboks, could, if successful, become just the second squad member to play in the Allianz Premier 15s after Zintle Mpupha joined Exeter Chiefs last month.
