In what has been a hugely popular development, it was confirmed last year that the Springboks’ ‘Chasing the Sun 2‘ documentary – focusing on the 2023 World Cup triumph – will first air on 24 March.

The five-part series is the sequel to Chasing the Sun, the award-winning story of the Springboks’ journey to capture the 2019 Rugby World Cup, and the sequel will premiere on M-Net and SuperSport on 24 March 2024.

Over three playoff games, the Springboks won each match by one point, which included a sensational comeback against England in the semi-finals.

That game was notably turned on its head through a brutal scrumming performance from the Springboks, and in the latest documentary preview, Bongi Mbonambi is one of the players who looks back at that knockout game.

The burly hooker specifically pinpoints how England celebrated wildly, in a manner in which he described as ‘plastic energy’ after winning a scrum from a knock on. But Mbonambi adds, “they’re just shouting, you only got a scrum, and now you have to scrum against us”.

You can watch what the Springbok superstar had to say in the preview clip below:

Chasing the Sun 2 is a documentary that aims to touch the hearts of all South Africans and, much like the world champion Springboks, hopes to give inspiration to a country often required to triumph against the odds.

Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus said: “The people of South Africa were a real motivation for us during the World Cup and we really were playing for them.

“This documentary is one way we can give back to South Africa by sharing our experience from the inside, warts and all.

“We cannot wait to give South Africans insight into our journey to winning the title.”

Chasing the Sun 2 – proudly brought to screens by Toyota, Betway and Spur – will air on M-Net (DStv channel 101) and on SuperSport Grandstand (DStv channel 201) on Sunday, 24 March 2024.
