We are venturing a guess that the Springboks might go for a 5-3 split against France in Sunday’s much-anticipated Rugby World Cup quarter-final.
RASSIE: Huge update on Pollard, Libbok, Am
We’ve got a feeling the technical staff will opt for a 5-3 split to accommodate the versatile talents of Cobus Reinach, the vast experience and composure of the fit-again Handre Pollard and world-class capabilities of Lukhanyo Am.
South Africa has won 11 from 12 Rugby World Cup matches in France spanning showpieces in 1999, 2007 and 2023. The Boks have played at Paris’ Stade de France 10 times, winning seven of those. The only match the Springboks have lost at France’s national stadium was against Ireland last month in the pool stages. South Africa played and won all seven World Cup matches in 2007 matches in France to lift the William Webb Ellis trophy for the second time. Back to the present, the defending champions now focus all their attention on a meeting with the hosts on Sunday at 21:00 in the nation’s capital. A place in the final four is up for grabs.
