A new online content series featuring the Springboks’ grandmothers has been launched.

The grandmothers of three prominent Springboks give some insight into the formative years that shaped their grandsons into the rugby powerhouses they are today.

Malcolm Marx, Bongi Mbonambi and Franco Mostert’s grannies all feature in a new online series about the Springbok men which they will forever see as boys.

Castle Lager has launched a video series named #TheGranBoks, in which the grannies reflect on offsprings’ upbringing and the challenges they had to endure and overcome to get to where they are today.

“We sat down with Malcolm Marx’s granny Melody, Franco Mostert’s oumas Martie, Riana, and Gerda, and Bongi Mbonambi’s gogo Themba, and they offered us the most unique and personal perspectives,” said Castle Lager Brand Director, Wendy Bedforth.

Bedforth adds, “They revealed how – the men millions of us admire – are heroes not because of their successes and silverware but rather because they are their grandsons.”

The series will roll out over a three-week period, with an English, Zulu and Afrikaans episode, respectively.

Octogenarian, Melody Anderson – Malcolm Marx’s gran – details how she watches matches with her three best friends, she’s adamant she doesn’t want a cellphone and loves it when Malcolm rings her to chat on her landline.
