Springbok fans are scanning every report for the fresh updates on the coaching developments following the Jacques Nienaber bombshell.

Nienaber rocked the rugby-loving public on Saturday by announcing his move to Leinster after the World Cup in France later in the year.

Soon talks shifted to his long-time friend and colleague Rassie Erasmus and if he could possibly be heading to the same destination. The pair, of course, already worked together in Ireland during their stint with Munster.

2027 deals for Springbok coaching unit

Daily Maverick have reported that current assistant coaches Mzwandile Stick and Deon Davids, who will both be considered for the job should SA Rugby opt to choose from within the current structure, have both renewed their contracts until 2027.

Erasmus has a contract until 2025.

Nienaber shared his reaons for leaving the country.

“The last few years have been the highlight of my coaching career and it’s with a heavy heart that I’m finishing up my time with the Springboks and leaving the country for personal reasons,” said Nienaber in a statement.

“The decision is made and that’s firmly behind me now. My sole focus is on seeing the Springboks defend the Rugby World Cup title this year. I will continue to channel all my energy into ensuring that we leave no stone unturned to achieve that.”

And Rassie?

But what if it gets worse? Could Rassie Erasmus join his friend in Ireland with Leinster?

“There is some speculation though that Rassie Erasmus could also be on his way to Leinster in a director of rugby role” read a line in a Daily Maverick story written by leading writer Craig Ray.
