The an out-of-sorts Blitzboks side were blanked 28-0 in their Cup quarter-final against Australia in Cape Town on Sunday morning.

LIVE RESULTS: Blitzboks, Cape Town Sevens on Sunday

Uncharacteristically bad start by the South Africans, with Quewin Nortje flattened in the tackle from the kick off and then carded for a deliberate slap down inside the 22.

And while Australia failed to make the man-over advantage count while Nortje was in the sin bin, the Blitzboks struggled to get out of their half and the pressure eventually took a toil on the South Africa’s splintered defensive line.

The Aussies crossed for two easy tries and with both conversion attempts sailing over the crossbar, they took a 14-0 lead into the break.

With it all to do in the second half, the Blitzboks simply folded under the pressure and exception of the subdued home crowd. They eventually went on to concede two more converted tries.

What was telling about this defeat, was that South Africa never looked like scoring because they were stuck in their own half for the entirety of the match.
