The 28-year-old, who was born in George in the Western Cape, took to his Instagram account to post two pictures on Blouberg Beach with Table Mountain prominent in the background.

In the first picture, Van der Merwe poses – with an impressive six-pack – with his wife Nika, while in the second snap, a still shirtless Van der Merwe sits on a towel looking out on the ocean.

Van der Merwe was educated at Hoërskool Outeniqua and studied at the University of Pretoria.

He represented South Africa at the 2014 Junior World Championship in New Zealand.

After missing most of the 2015 season due to injury, Van der Merwe played for UP Tuks in the 2016 Varsity Cup and featured for the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup the next season.

Duhan van der Merwe moved to Montpellier in France in 2016 before joining Scottish side Edinburgh in 2017.

He qualified to play for Scotland after three years of residency during his time at Edinburgh.

To date he was played 34 Tests for Scotland, scoring 21 tries. He also has three caps for the British & Irish Lions.
