A viral video shows SA President Cyril Ramaphosa shooting a dirty look at All Blacks star Jordie Barrett after he snubbed his handshake.

On Monday night, SA President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that he had made 15 December 2023 a public holiday in honour of the Springboks Rugby World Cup win.
This past weekend Ramaphosa was present as South Africa lifted the trophy once again, while he was also on stage during the post-match ceremony as the players collected their medals.

Notably, though, videos have gone viral on social media showing All Blacks star Jordie Barrett – and seemingly his brother Beauden as well – ignoring the handshake of Ramaphosa.
An angle afterwards also shows Ramaphosa shooting a filthy look in the direction of Barrett after the apparent snub.

Meanwhile, South Africa can look forward to a newly announced public holiday.
“I know that many of us want us to have a holiday now to celebrate. But we should all agree that we should give our matriculants time to focus on their exams and celebrate afterwards,“
“In celebration of the Springboks’ momentous achievement and the achievements of all our other sports men and women – and as a tribute to the resolve of our united nation – I am declaring Friday, 15th December 2023 as a public holiday. We declare this to be a day of hope, a day of celebration and unity. Our sports men and women have shown us what is possible,” Ramaphosa stated during his speech on Monday.

SPRINGBOKS FOREVER GRATEFUL
The Springboks completed one of the greatest playoff runs in Rugby World Cup history when they edged France 29-28 in the quarter-finals, England 16-15 in the semi-finals and ultimately the All Blacks 12-11 in the final to retain the Webb Ellis Cup and their status as world champions.
Each of the Springboks’ thrilling one-point victories in the three playoff matches resonated with their millions of supporters, as social media was packed with celebratory videos of South Africans around the globe, duly acknowledged by SA Rugby president Mark Alexander.

“The Springboks are on their way back to South Africa, but on their behalf and on behalf of the entire South African rugby community, I want to express our profound gratitude and humility in the face of the immense support the team has received.
“The TikToks, YouTube videos, and Facebook posts of fans reacting to the Bok victories played a significant role in motivating the team to give their all as the clock ticked down to the final whistle on Saturday night.”
“Thank you, South Africa,” said Alexander.
