These 12 teams have qualified for Rugby World Cup 2027

The 2027 Rugby World Cup is scheduled to be the 11th edition of the quadrennial tournament.

It is scheduled to take place in Australia from 10 September to 23 October 2027.

World Rugby has decided to expand the 2027 Rugby World Cup to a 24-team tournament in order to help grow the sport.

Alan Gilpin, its chief executive, has thrown his weight behind the expansion plans and mentioned “very positive signs” due to encouraging performances of Chile and Portugal – in particular – at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Twenty nations played at the ongoing 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

The top 3 finishers in each of the four pools automatically qualified for the tournament in 2027.

They are (in alphabetical order): Argentina, Australia, England, Fiji, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa and Wales.

The remaining 12 spaces will be decided by regional competitions followed by cross-regional playoffs where necessary.
