The first ever meeting between Boks and England was at the 1999 Rugby World Cup when the two nations met in the quarterfinals. Boks the match 44-21.

The only time England beat the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup was in 2003 when they registered a 25-6 pool game win over them.

England would again face the Springboks at the 2007 Rugby World Cup – this time twice – in the group stage and in the final.

The Springboks hammered England 36-0 in the group stage before securing the trophy with a 15-6 win in the final in Paris.

Both England and Boks met again in the 2019 Rugby World Cup final in Yokohama for a repeat of the 2007 edition, and the South Africans won 32-12 to lift the trophy.
