The SABC and MultiChoice have reached an agreement for the public broadcaster to screen 16 Rugby World Cup matches LIVE.

The two media companies were at loggerheads regarding the broadcasting of the Rugby World Cup as SABC couldn’t meet MultiChoice’s asking price for the sub-licencing rights.

This saga also drew the attention of Sport Minister Zizi Kodwa who vowed to meet both media companies in order to intervene.

On Thursday morning, the SABC released a statement confirming that they had complied with all the requirements set by MultiChoice, and that they were awaiting feedback.

Now, MultiChoice, through SuperSport TV, that they have reached an agreement in principle with the SABC, and that the public broadcaster MAY broadcast 16 matches.

The South African website has it on good authority that the SABC will accept the terms to broadcast the 16 matches offered to them.

𝑺𝑻𝑨𝑻𝑬𝑴𝑬𝑵𝑻: MultiChoice can confirm that, following acceptance by the SABC of a proposal made by MultiChoice, it has reached an agreement in principle to sub-licence broadcast rights to the SABC for Rugby World Cup 2023. A total of 16 matches may be broadcast by the SABC.

Sunday, 10 September – Springboks v Scotland (Stade Velodrome, Marseille). Kick-off time: 17:45
Sunday, 17 September – Springboks v Romania (Stade de Bordeaux, Bordeaux). Kick-off time: 15:00
Saturday, 23 September – Springboks v Ireland (Stade de France, Paris). Kick-off time: 21:00
Sunday, 1 October – Boks v Tonga (Stade Velodrome, Marseille). Kick-off time: 21:00
