TEAMS ON THE BRINK OF ELIMINATION

Uruguay (Pool A) may not be mathematically eliminated but they are as good as gone. They not only have to beat New Zealand but they would have to smash the All Blacks by over 80 points. Moreover, Italy need to beat France and better what NZ do to Uruguay. If NZ secure an expected bonus-point Italy will go home.

In contrast, Tonga’s loss to the Springboks sees them eliminated from Pool B. In Pool C, Samoa have to beat England to survive while the loser of the Argentina and Japan clash will be eliminated. Fiji need just 1 point against Portugal to eliminate Australia and Portugal and book their place in their first quarter-finals since 2007.
