Mapimpi and Marx to rejoin the Springboks ahead of FINAL

Injured duo Makazole Mapimpi and Malcolm Marx will jet off to France after the Springboks reached the Rugby World Cup final.

Injured wing Makazole Mapimpi and hooker Malcolm Marx will rejoin the Springboks squad later in the week after the team reached their second successive Rugby World Cup final.

The duo were ruled of the tournament due to untimely injuries and were replaced in the squad.

SA Rugby Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus confirmed that both Mapimpi and Marx will rejoin the squad should the Springboks reach the final.

A hard-fought 16-15 win over England last Saturday saw the Springboks reach the final where they’ll take on New Zealand on Saturday, 28 October.

Kick-off at the Stade de France in Paris is scheduled for 21:00 (SA time).

Mapimpi and Marx to fly back to France

Marx, who was the Springboks’ first-choice hooker heading into the World Cup, sustained a serious knee injury during training and was replaced by flyhalf Handre Pollard.

Meanwhile, Mapimpi suffered a fractured eye-socket during the Springboks’ Pool B match against Tonga.

He was replaced by centre Lukhanyo Am.

“If we get to the final, we’ll fly him (Mapimpi) and Malcolm Marx back,” Rassie Erasmus said.

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi thanked the fans for their support after his team reached another World Cup final.

“We feel and see the support, and even at our hotel one of our sponsors has a screen with all the messages of support,” said Kolisi.

“I don’t think there’s anywhere in the world where people go to the malls to watch our matches, and they do that in South Africa.

“As a team we are not only representing South Africa, but the whole African continent, and we appreciate the support,” Kolisi added.
