Eskom has confirmed that Stage 4 load shedding will be in effect for the Springboks’ opening Rugby World Cup 2023 match against Scotland on Sunday, 10 September.

In announcing their plan for the weekend, Eskom confirmed that Stage 1 load shedding will be in place between 05:00 and 16:00 on Sunday.

Load shedding will then ramp up to Stage 4 until 05:00 on Monday, 11 September.

Eskom promised to publish another update should any significant changes occur.

Eskom pleaded with the public to switch off non-essential appliances – in particular geysers and pool pumps – to reduce the demand, especially between 17:00 and 21:00.

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town adjusted its schedule following the Eskom announcement.
The City of Cape Town will follow the same load shedding pattern as Eskom on Sunday, 10 September.
