Springbok legends Jean de Villiers and Victor Matfield predict an all-Southern Hemisphere World Cup semi-final showdown in France!

Jean de Villiers and Victor Matfield, two absolute legends of Bok rugby, have called a clean sweep for the southern hemisphere sides heading into the World Cup in France.

Chatting on a podcast this week, the two former Springboks broke down the draw and came to the conclusion that the four Rugby Championship teams will beat the northern sides in the playoffs.

Jean and Victor reckon the Boks’ biggest challenge will come from Scotland and Ireland in the group stage. But if Rassie’s men can stamp their authority against Scotland first up, it’ll put major pressure on Ireland to beat both the Boks and Scotland to qualify.

Jean and Victor: Boks to take down hosts France in quarters

Jean de Villiers and Victor Matfield believe the Boks will come up against the hosts France in the quarters. But with star flyhalf Romain Ntamack injured, they back the Boks to have too much firepower against a depleted French side.

This would set up a semi against either Australia or Argentina. Jean and Victor are convinced the Webb Ellis Cup is staying down south, both tipping the Boks to overcome the All Blacks in the final.

2015 repeat on the cards

This would mirror the 2015 tournament where New Zealand edged South Africa in the semis, before beating Australia in the final.

Jean and Victor predictions back up the belief that southern hemisphere teams play a quicker, more attacking brand of rugby.

After the Boks beat New Zealand last weekend, confidence will be sky high that Rassie’s men can repeat that win on rugby’s biggest stage.
