Richie McCaw named Player of the Decade – and we couldn’t agree more
Former All Blacks legend Richie McCaw was named World Rugby Player of the Decade at a virtual awards evening on Monday.

Former All Blacks legend Richie McCaw was named World Rugby Player of the Decade at a virtual awards evening on Monday.

McCaw beat former team-mates Dan Carter, Kieran Read, Brodie Retallick and Beauden Barrett as well as Thierry Dusautoir (France), Johnny Sexton (Ireland) and Pieter-Steph du Toit (South Africa) to the award.
‘To be able to get an award like this is pretty humbling,’ said McCaw, who captained the All Blacks to Rugby World Cup wins in 2011 and 2015.
‘When you’re in a team sport you rely on a good bunch of team-mates around you to have any sort of success, so I guess I was lucky for that. And probably quite lucky, (because) I only played half the decade.’
McCaw was also selected in World Rugby’s Team of the Decade.
McCaw played 148 Tests for the All Blacks, winning a staggering 131 of those with only 15 defeat and two draws for an 89% win-record.
He also scored 27 Test tries.
McCaw also played 145 Super Rugby matches for the Crusaders, wining the title on four occasions.
He’s also a 10-time Tri-Nations/Rugby Championship winner.
