Hugh Bladen suffers SECOND stroke in the space of a week

Renowned South African rugby commentator Hugh Bladen has suffered a second stroke in the space of a week.

Renowned South African rugby commentator Hugh Bladen has reportedly suffered a second stroke in the space of a week.

The owner of arguably the most famous voice in South African rugby, Bladen, now 76, was hospitalised last week for two nights having suffered a ‘mild’ stroke.

He told Huisgenoot that he is in high spirits and feeling fine.

“When I woke up the morning, I struggled to talk for a few minutes. My wife was worried as asked whether I had been drinking,” Bladen reportedly said from his hospital bed.

Bladen confirmed that he spent two nights in hospital.

“The doctor said I can go home. My daughters flew up from Rondebosch in Cape Town to support their mother after I was admitted.

“[But] I only had a mild stroke. It wasn’t a massive heart attack or massive stroke. The doctor told me I can start exercising again tomorrow (Thursday). I stopped going to the gym and train with bricks in my garden.”

However, according to SA Rugby mag, a source has revealed that Bladen’s recovery suffered a setback with a second, more severe stroke on Monday, 11 October.

He has once again been hospitalised.

Earlier this year homage was paid to Hugh Bladen when a documentary in his name was streamed on Showmax Pro.

Appropriately titled “The Uncle – The Hugh Bladen Story”, it chronicled the remarkable life of the former Junior Springbok who carved out a unique place for himself in television broadcasting across four decades.
