Griquas have named their team to face the table-topping Sharks at Kings Park on Saturday afternoon.

The men from the Northern Cape will be eager to avenge a 30-16 home loss to the Sharks from the opening round of the 2021 Currie Cup.

Aimee Barrett-Theron will have the whistle for a game that will act as a virtual curtain-raiser for the Springboks second Test against the British and Irish Lions.

Last week the Sharks put on an entertaining clash with the Cheetahs, and emerged victorious, back at home they will be eager to build momentum.

It is Griquas though who have had better continuity coming into the contest with a very settled backline marshalled by experienced halfback pairing Stefan Ungerer and George Whitehead. Whitehead’s 65 points so far this season put him second on the 2021 Currie Cup scoring list.

Griquas have won their last two matches on the bounce seeing off the Lions last time out and before that snatching an upset win over Western Province.

Winger Eduan Keyter has already scored six tries in the Currie Cup and will be looking for another memorable score at Kings Park.

Griquas have made progress this season under the direction of former Shark Scott Mathie, and it would be a tremendous fillup for the coach and his team if they could get one over on the log leaders.
