NZ Rugby has confirmed an investigation has been launched into allegations that All Black Shannon Frizell was involved in an assault on a woman.

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has confirmed an investigation has been launched into allegations that All Black loose forward Shannon Frizell was involved in an assault on a woman in Dunedin.

According to a report on Stuff, Frizell, who has 13 All Black caps to his name, was part of an alleged incident that took place at a restaurant in the South Island city centre.

A police spokesperson said in a statement that they were investigating a report of an assault at ‘a bar in the Octagon’ at approximately 02:30 on Sunday.

Officers weren’t called to the incident, but police were recently notified of the situation and allegations.

New Zealand Rugby general manager Chris Lendrum said the union was aware of the alleged incident.

‘New Zealand Rugby is aware of an allegedincident involving a Highlanders player in Dunedin on Sunday morning,’ Lendrum admitted.

‘We are working alongside the Highlanders to ascertain what happened and have no further comment until that process has been complete.’

Shannon Frizell, 27, re-signed with New Zealand Rugby in April until the end of 2023 and also committed to the Highlanders and Otago Rugby.
