Percy Tau’s move to the English Premier League looks rather imminent, as reports emerging on Wednesday suggest the Mamelodi Sundowns forward is currently undergoing medicals with Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 24-year-old has attracted interest all around Europe, thanks to a stellar showing in the 2017/18 season where he registered 11 league goals and ten assists.

The Seagulls have been a clear leader in the race for his signature and – after their initial offer was rejected – Sundowns president, Patrice Motsepe paved the way for a potential move by instructing his club to let the player go.

The show now looks to be well and truly on the road as, after reporting that the two clubs have agreed on a deal in principle, Soccer Laduma now report that the player has landed in Brighton for a medical, and an announcement is set to be made in the coming days.

According to the publication, Tau flew out from on Tuesday – the same day Sundowns suffered a 1-0 defeat away to AS Togo Port in the CAF Champions League – and landed at London’s Heathrow Airport this morning.

Should the move be successful, Tau will become the first South African plying his trade in the English Premier League since Steven Pienaar, who turned out for three clubs in England’s top flight in Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland, before returning to the PSL to play for Bidvest Wits in the 2017/18 season.

Other South Africans who have made a notable impact in the league include former Bafana skipper, Lucas Radebe – who enjoyed cult status at Leeds United – as well as the likes of Quinton Fortune, who spent his peak at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson and former Blackburn Rovers goal-machine, Benni McCarthy.
