Ridiculous penalty sends young goalkeeper into wild celebration… prematurely [video]

As the old cliché goes, ‘it’s not over until the fat lady sings’ – had a goalkeeper in a Thai Under 18 football game taken heed of this he would have saved himself great embarrassment. Turns out it’s not a very popular saying in Thailand.

After a cup tie between Bangkok Sports Club and Satri Angthong could not be decided after 90 minutes, not even extra time separated the two sides as the game finished in a stalemate at 2-2.

The Satri goalie would have been forgiven for thinking the game would be decided after a quick shootout, but it wasn’t to be. A ridiculous marathon penalty shootout ensued and wasn’t up until a penalty, taken by his opposite number that everyone in attendance went absolutely wild.

Not that it was done with a great deal of skill… unless intentional of course.

The Bangkok keeper opted for power and hit the post, sending his rival into a hysterical celebration as what he believed was a horrible miss gave his side an advantage, but it wasn’t to be.

Thanks to the marathon shootout – and the luckiest bounce of 2017  – Bangkok Sports Club went away victors with a scoreline that wouldn’t look out of place on a rugby scoreboard, winning the match 20-19 on penalties.
