Orlando Pirates winger Thembinkosi Lorch believes his side cannot afford to lose anymore games if they are to remain in the running for the league title.

In what has been a heated title race, the Buccaneers find themselves in second place, just two points behind log leaders Bidvest Wits, following a convincing 4-1 victory over AmaZulu on Saturday night.

The result brought to an end a six-match winless run in all competitions, which included a first league defeat since August 2018.

Still in pursuit of their first league title since 2013, Lorch – who has been a star player for the club this season – said the Soweto giants are still in the running for the big prize.

“I think we still have a chance to win the league, we just have to take it one game at a time,” Lorch said on Saturday.

“It’s tough now, we’re left with nine games, so we just have to take it one game at a time. But we don’t have to put pressure on ourselves, and we can’t afford to lose games either.”

Tough road to glory for the Buccaneers

In the nine league games until the end of the season, Pirates still have to face all three of their biggest challenges for the title, as they are playing both Wits and Cape Town City away, while also welcoming Mamelodi Sundowns to Orlando Stadium.

Their next assignment is against Lamontville Golden Arrows, who they visit before hosting Bloemfontein Celtic – one of only three outfits to defeat them in the league this season.
