Netball World Cup: All the world champions crowned

The Netball World Cup has been dominated by the Antipodeans with Australia and New Zealand the only nations to win the event outright.

The Netball World Cup has been dominated by the Antipodeans, with Australia and New Zealand the only nations to win the event outright.

In 1979 Trinidad & Tobago shared the trophy with both Australia and New Zealand in an event that did not feature a grand final.

South Africa’s brush with Netball World Cup glory

England and South Africa are the only other teams to have featured in the Netball World Cup final each alighting the big stage once.

South Africa featured in the final in 1995 when the team was welcomed back onto the international stage after isolation.

In the most recent event in 2019, the Spar Proteas came within a handful of points of reaching the final but went down to Australia before missing out on what would have been a second third-place finish when they lost to hosts England in the playoff.

Coming to South Africa

The World Cup comes to South Africa for the first time in 2023 with Cape Town hosting the showpiece.

In 2019 it was New Zealand who lifted the trophy for the first time since 2003 having come up second best to Australia for three successive tournaments.

With 11 Netball World Cup trophies to their name, Australia are by far and away the most successful nation, followed by the Silver Ferns of New Zealand with five titles, including the one they split with their Trans-Tasman rivals and T&T.
