Mzansi Super League: Nelson Mandela Bay Giants vs Paarl Rocks

Paarl Rocks remain on the road, and their next stop is Port Elizabeth, where they take on Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at St George’s Park on Friday.

After a tough start, the visitors find themselves in third place, just directly below their opponents with four matches played so far.

This is thanks to back-to-back wins in their two most recent outings, where they were the first to slay the table-topping Cape Town Blitz before putting Durban Heat to the sword in a rain-affected match, reduced to nine overs apiece, at Kingsmead on Wednesday.

Paarl Rocks’ resurgence coincided with the return of their Proteas, most notably captain Faf du Plessis, who marked his arrival in his adopted home with a half century.

Also crucial to their change of fortunes has been left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin, who has been entrusted with new-ball duties, grabbing six wickets in the last two matches.

The Giants, on the other hand, were unable to take to the field on their last outing, as no play was possible due to rain in the Windy City.

This saw them split the points with Cape Town Blitz, thus consolidating their position in second place.

Like their opponents, the hosts won their last two matches where play was able to take place, brushing Durban Heat aside before prevailing in another rain-affected match, where they defeated Tshwane Spartans at Supersport Park.
