Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will give striker Marcus Rashford every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool.

The England frontman is desperate to take the field against United’s arch-rivals in Liverpool on Sunday despite being forced off the park in midweek.

Rashford determined to make Manchester United XI vs Liverpool

Rashford suffered a back injury during Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Wolves in the FA Cup just 16 minutes after coming on a substitute and could miss the encounter against table-topping Liverpool.

Speaking to a pre-match press conference on Friday, Solskjaer said according to ManUnited.com: “I can’t tell you now [whether Rashford will be fit to face Liverpool].

“As I said with Harry [Maguire] a few weeks ago, of course, we’re going to give him the absolute amount of time to find out.

“We’re going to do some more checks and treatment with him today. Yesterday of course was just a recovery day anyway and some treatment for him.

“I haven’t seen him this morning, but I’m not going to hold my breath. I would probably think that he wouldn’t be ready, but let’s see. There’s still 48 hours, more than that, so let’s see.”

Rashford scored United’s go-ahead goal in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford before Liverpool stormed back to equalize late on.

Paul Pogba, Marcos Rojo and Scott McTominay have all been ruled out of contention for the most anticipated clash of the weekend in the Premier League.

Young departs for Inter Milan

Fullback Luke Shaw is also in doubt for the clash having missed the midweek clash with Wolves after sustaining a hamstring strain. The injury to Shaw and departure of Ashley Young leaves United light in the fullback department.

Solskjaer said that Young was allowed to leave after being approached by Inter Milan, who offered the Red Devils skipper a two-year deal which United could not match.

“Well, to be fair, I think it was for Ashley, you know,” Solskjaer said on Friday.

“He is 35 in the summer and, if he gets a two-year contract somewhere, I think it’s up to him to take that. We weren’t ready to offer that.

“He’s been a good servant for the club. He’s been captain and he’s won trophies, leagues, cups, but we’ve got players coming through.

“So it was time now, then. When Ashley’s head and mindset was on ‘yeah, I want to try this’, why not do it now?”
