When it come to making the most of a meeting between Liverpool and Manchester United David De Gea is near the head of the queue.

The Spaniard is relishing the prospect of another edition of a fixture he describes as the biggest game in England as Liverpool visit Old Trafford on Sunday.

Last time out three Liverpool goals flew past de Gea but the keeper will be eager to point out that each took a deflection of some sort. De Gea has the habit of putting in big displays in big games and will almost certainly be tested.

When speaking about the fixture De Gea told United Review it was important for the players to enjoy the atmosphere that a match of this magnitude brings, he said:

“It’s the biggest game in England.

“It’s a very special game, for the fans, the club and the players and, above all, when it’s at Old Trafford, it’s always even more of an occasion. It’s just a massive game.

“We aim to enjoy and, of course, we’ll be trying our best to win it!”

Liverpool’s main goal threat is usually Mohamed Salah but de Gea rightfully points out that they cannot afford to focus on just one player as there are plenty of Reds capable of breaching the United defence.

“You don’t just focus on the one player,” said de Gea. “They have got a good side with some good players individually. You prepare like you would for any other game, knowing that you are up against a very good side with some top players.”

De Gea said that both teams had far more than just pride on the line. Liverpool are in an intense title race while Manchester United are locked in a threeway tussle for fourth with Chelsea and Arsenal and the result on Sunday will have an impact on both.

“No matter what each of the two teams are playing for, this game is always very different and unique,” he says. “Both teams are competing on various fronts but we are playing at home, we want to win and want to keep battling to get into the Champions League next season.”

Kick off at Old Trafford on Sunday is scheduled for 16:05.
